Ask and You Shall Receive...

Here are photos of the new room. Unfortunately, it turns out the light in that room isn't too good for pictures and so only one photo shows the true colors...

This shot is taken from the door. The color is most accurate in this one. It's called "Butterfly Flutter By." Obviously we still have quite a bit of decorating to do... but it's a start.

In this picture and the last, the walls actually look blue. So perhaps Chris got his wish after all! This is taken from the closet door, which you see in the picture below. Notice in the dresser mirror, you can actually see the nightstand from the picture above. And notice that you CAN'T see the photographer. I was very conscious of that, since I am wearing basically pajamas, and honestly, no one on the internet needs to see that...

And finally, this one was taken from the coatrack shown in the picture above. The door into the room is just a bit further right from this. We will eventually add the bookcase from the nursery, and it will probably go against this wall, but we have to buy a replacement for the nursery first. She has many books and stuffed toys and the like, and then we want to have separate space for him to have many books and stuffed toys as well.

Overall, Chris did a bang-up job getting the room painted. There are a few drips and some uneven patches... but again, we never claimed skill in this area. And it gives the room character, yes? Athena hung out in there for a while earlier, and she thinks it's pretty cool, but she doesn't seem ready to call it home yet. We'll work on it. I'm moving all her clothes in there, and when the bookcase goes in, I think she'll be really intrigued. I considered getting some stencils and painting her name on the wall over her bed, but I suspect by age 12 she won't like that much anymore... Maybe I'll do it anyway. We should probably paint again in 10 years anyway...

Wow, that is a BIG GIRL bed!!! Rock on, Athena! Living in style :)

Oh, yes. Grandma gave us that extra long double bed. Same one you crashed on when you were here in December, Sophie. I'm not about to get rid of it. It's practically new. If she really hates it at first, we will consider buying a toddler bed to use for a couple of years until she grows into this one. But if she's anything like me, she'll be just fine in it.

The room looks great, and I'm sure she'll appreciate the big bed. You guys did an awesome job.

The lavender is more evident in the top photo and looks like a very nice shade. Behr is great paint and I love their website. You can pick your paint color and then try it out in different rooms. Next time you have to paint check it out, makes choosing a color easy.

Now, what kind of comforter set will she have?

We haven't bought a comforter yet. We'll probably do that sometime next weekend.

Yes, my mom was very upset that I was choosing paint without choosing a comforter first... some call it "the hard way..." I call it "living on the edge."

I can't imagine we will have trouble finding something with lavender and white in it...

I always go with the wall color before choosing comforters and such. I've always thought it important to be happy with the wall color and then find something to match it. You are going to be looking at that wall color a long time so I would think that would be the main focus. Who knows though, maybe I've been living on the edge also.

Ya'll are making me remember doing these things for my boys. It was great fun until my oldest said he had ghosts living under his bed. The child would not sleep in the bed, not until his father took the bed down and put the mattress on the floor. No room for ghosts after that. Those are sweet memories.

That is just a happy sweet looking room. Very inviting and warm! I especially love the little coat rack... Where did you get that??

My mom bought it for her before she was born. I think she got it at a craft fair. It's actually kind of a joke, because I told mom the nursery would feature "Classic Pooh" as opposed to the "Disney Pooh." So I told her she could buy all the Pooh stuff she wanted, as long as it was styled in the classic way rather than the "Disney-fied." So of course everything she bought was the "Disneyfied" version. Grandmas are so funny!
